Take Back the Night
Take Back the Night is an annual march to rally against, and raise awareness about violence against women. Take Back the Night's roots may lie in 1877 when women protested the fear and violence they experienced in the night-time streets of London, England. Others believe that the first rally took place in 1976 when women attended the International Tribunal on Crimes Against Women, where women lit candles and took to the moon lit streets of Belgium to denounce the continuation of violence against women.
No matter where the march originated, the spirit of the march is strong- that violence against women is unacceptable. The Kappa Sigma Delta-Omicron Chapter participates in this annual event to show our support for women and raises money to support the cause. Chapter members participate in the march, which begins at the 'Grizzly Bear' near the Oval on the University of Montana campus and ends at the Missoula County Courthouse. This symbolic walk is a true testimony that violence against women will not be tolerated, and is the physical showing that the men of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity will stand in opposition to all forms of violence against women.
