Early Years

Now that Brother Diaz had the support of a strong national fraternity and several of his close friends to help establish the chapter, he recognized the that in order for a chapter to be the best, you needed to recruit the best. So the search begun for good men and bright minds who wanted to be more involved on campus and had a strong desire to perform community service.

In March of 2003 the journey to create a new Kappa Sigma Chapter began. The process required three stages:

  1. Recruit 15 men and and become recognized as an interest group of Kappa Sigma, an unofficial collection of students seeking membership.

  2. Recruit 25 men and the group would transform from an interest group into a colony, an entire group of pledges recognized as provisional members of Kappa Sigma.

  3. Become the largest fraternity on campus, develop approved academic programs, obtain a cumulative GPA as a group higher than the All Men's average on campus and fund-raise the appropriate money necessary to establish a charter. When these tasks were complete, the colony would become a Chapter of Kappa Sigma, a group of fully initiated members
