The journey of the Delta Omicron chapter began when Jose Diaz, the original founder, came to the University of Montana with the objective of learning more than what you could in the classroom.

During his sophomore year in 2003, he was approached by another fraternity seeking his membership. Through that courtship Brother Diaz learned that in order to be successful in the professional world today, you need more than just a college degree. To be truly successful, you need an additional level of knowledge and networking that a proper fraternity (if operated correctly) could provide.

Through a brief pledge-ship with the other fraternity Brother Diaz recognized that there is a real potential for Greek students to make an impact at UM but felt that this particular organization was not the best fit for him. He was looking for a fraternity that placed a huge emphasis on service and campus/community involvement. After participating in the recruitment process with the fraternities that at the time existed at UM, Brother Diaz did not find what he was looking for and was ready to conclude his search.

It was later that same week when Brother Diaz was given the idea to start a fraternity.
